Why I (mostly) Don't Care About Algorithms
Join us for a live discussion with Auny TODAY at 12pmEST on X Spaces
Happy Wednesday EduCreator,
I see creators getting disheartened all the time by the algorithm. They are constantly trying to keep up with a seemingly endless line of code that determines whose posts get seen, how often, when and by whom. No one really knows how the algorithm works. If you follow Alex Finn on X, you have more insight than you would otherwise, but it’s constantly shifting so it’s always somewhat a guessing game.
I don’t do ads. I don’t do algos. My strategy is building organically . Building community brick by brick with real humans. I do this through live social audio Spaces, this newsletter, and by connecting in the DMs. As much as I can, I take the relationship off platform by getting on a phone call or Zoom.
I say “mostly” because of course there are some things related to the algorithm I care about. Engagement is always a good thing. So I am intentional about liking, commenting and supporting creators I want to see more in my timeline, as well as build meaningful connections with.
Today’s spotlight is on a creator that does both well: understands the X algo and how to build relationships. Auny will be joining us during our Season 4 Finale week.
5 Tips for Prioritizing Your Audience Over the Algorithm
Focusing excessively on social media algorithms can divert attention from what truly matters: creating meaningful connections with your audience. Here are five tips to help you prioritize your audience over algorithms:
1. Understand Your Audience
Research and Engage: Take the time to learn about your audience's preferences, pain points, and interests. Engage with them through surveys, social media conversations, and feedback to tailor your content accordingly.
2. Prioritize Quality Over Quantity
Deliver Value: Instead of focusing on posting frequently to appease algorithms, concentrate on creating high-quality content that resonates with your audience. This approach fosters trust and encourages organic engagement.
3. Be Authentic
Stay True to Your Brand: Authenticity attracts and retains followers. Share your unique perspective and experiences to connect on a personal level with your audience.
4. Engage with Your Community
Foster Interaction: Encourage comments, discussions, and feedback. Responding to your audience's input builds a sense of community and loyalty, making your platform more engaging.
5. Embrace a Growth Mindset
Focus on Improvement: Instead of fixating on algorithmic changes, concentrate on honing your craft. Continuously improving your skills and content quality will naturally lead to better engagement.
By implementing these strategies, you can cultivate a loyal and engaged audience, reducing the need to chase algorithmic favor.
