Are Your Projects Vision Aligned?

Join me in the The Startup Circle today at 1pmEST on X Spaces

Happy Thursday EduCreator,

Learning how to align projects with vision has been transformational for me. Whether big or small, for myself or for clients, for home or for work, the amount of times we start a new project without having a clear vision is more frequent than not.

When I first started my consulting business in 2017, I had a hard time finishing projects with clients. The project would start with a ton of enthusiasm but within weeks, life would get in the way and the momentum would be hard to keep up. Try as I might, once a client loses steam, it was very difficult to get them inspired again.

All of this changed when I became committed to beginning every project with a clear vision. This is different than a goal or a mission, which can change over time. The vision is the foundation from which everything else grows. It should feel inspirational and exciting. The vision clearly defines the purpose for the project and helps keep goals, objectives, and tasks focused.

EduCreator Launch #13 This Friday at 2pmEST

As part of my community’s vision to get out of the constant learning cycle and start really publishing and shipping ideas, we host a monthly Launch event on X Spaces. Join us tomorrow and share what you’re working on.

5 Slightly Unconventional Tips for Aligning Vision with Your Project

1. Name the Mountain, Not Just the Mile ⛰️

  • Don't just define deliverables — define the big WHY.

  • Ask: What will change in my life, or the life of my client, if this project succeeds?

  • Write a one-sentence vision headline and make it visible on project plans and notes.

2. Design the Project Backwards 🔙

  • Start with the end result and reverse-engineer your steps.

  • Imagine you’re at the finish line: What had to be true to get here?

  • This keeps every task connected to the big vision instead of busy work.

3. Use a “Vision Filter” for Every Decision 🪞

  • Before making a choice, ask: Does this bring us closer to or further from the vision?

  • If it’s not a clear “yes,” it’s a “no” — or at least a pause. Vision alignment is a discipline.

4. Visualize Impact, Not Just Tasks 💫

  • Create a vision board or impact storyboard for your project.

  • Show how the work affects people’s lives, community, or environment.

  • This keeps you, and anyone on your team, emotionally bought in — especially during tough phases.

5. Tell the Vision Often — Out Loud 🗣️

  • A project without repetition becomes a job. A vision told often becomes a movement.

  • Open every project meeting, update, or check-in by restating the vision (even just one line).

  • Make it a mantra. If people can't repeat it, they won't rally around it.

My Vision 💫
