Running a newsletter allows me to spend time with my son and still engage my community.
Hello {{first_name | EduCreator}},
This week I decided to try something different with this newsletter. I started telling parts of my story I’ve never told before as a way to bring more clarity to my brand’s vision and the community I’ve been building for years.
The replies and response to this has been very positive and it has confirmed something I’ve always kind of known, but wasn’t fully leveraging: the power of storytelling to build deeper connections with my audience and community members.
It’s helped me to realize that even when school is out and days are packed with holiday activities, a newsletter is a great way to keep momentum going especially when you’re short on time.
Many people want community but do not have time to manage one.
Daily moderation, constant replies, and platform hopping can quickly turn a good idea into another obligation. When attention is already stretched thin, community needs to feel supportive, not demanding.
This is where a newsletter becomes powerful.
Before we go further, let’s check out these words from today’s sponsor. Thank you so much for supporting the partners of this newsletter.
Attention spans are shrinking. Get proven tips on how to adapt:
Mobile attention is collapsing.
In 2018, mobile ads held attention for 3.4 seconds on average.
Today, it’s just 2.2 seconds.
That’s a 35% drop in only 7 years. And a massive challenge for marketers.
The State of Advertising 2025 shows what’s happening and how to adapt.

What do Tom Brady, Alex Hormozi, and Jay Shetty all have in common?
They all have newsletters.
If you’re building a personal brand, social can only take you so far. Algorithms glitch. Reach tanks. But a newsletter gives you real ownership and revenue.
That’s why we built a free 5-day email course that shows you how to grow and monetize with sponsorships, digital products, and B2B services.
Usually we charge $97, but for the next 24 hours it’s free. Sign up for the course today.
Community Without Constant Management
A newsletter allows you to build connection without being always on.
Instead of reacting in real time, you establish a steady rhythm. One intentional message reaches everyone at once, on your schedule. That reliability builds trust even when interaction is minimal.
Community does not require constant conversation. It requires consistency, clarity, and presence over time.
Over the years, I’ve hosted various communities on different platform like Discord, Mighty Networks, and most recently, Heartbeat. While this can be very rewarding, it’s not always sustainable long term.
Social platforms play an important role in community building and promoting your brand’s vision.
Platforms like X and LinkedIn are excellent for discovery, visibility, and informal connection. They help you meet new people, test ideas publicly, and join broader conversations.
You can absolutely build a community on social media, but there is a limitation that matters if you are thinking long term.
You do not own the relationship. If the platform disappears, so do your connections.
The Risk of Rented Attention
On social platforms, access to your audience is conditional.
Algorithms decide reach. Policies change. Feeds move fast. Even strong connections can disappear from view without warning.
You may have an engaged audience, but you are always building on rented ground.
That is risky when your time is limited and your energy needs to compound, not reset. You want to be sure your most valuable content is reaching the people it needs to reach.
A newsletter changes the relationship.
When someone joins your email list, they are opting into direct connection. There is no feed to fight and no algorithm deciding priority. You control when and how you show up. Your content is directly delivered to their inbox.
That ownership creates stability, which is essential when you cannot be everywhere at once.
It also creates depth. Email is a slower, more intentional medium. People read it differently. They reflect. They save it. They return to it.
Email Is Not a Thing of the Past
There’s a persistent myth that email is outdated. The data says otherwise.
Email remains one of the most effective channels for direct communication and engagement:
• Email marketing often delivers a return of around $36–$45 for every $1 spent, far surpassing most social media channels in ROI.
• Research suggests email can be up to 40 times more effective at acquiring customers than social media marketing. (Audience Point - Audience Point)
• Nearly 4.5 billion people use email worldwide, and that number is projected to grow. (OptinMonster)
• 88% of users check their email multiple times a day, with 39% checking it 3-5 times daily. (OptinMonster)
• Industry benchmarks show newsletters and welcome messages routinely generate solid open rates, proving people still engage with email content. (EmailTooltester.com)
This is not an either/or decision.
Social platforms are where people find you.
Your newsletter is where they stay.
Use social media to spark interest and conversation. Then invite people into your email list where the relationship can deepen at a sustainable pace.
Discovery happens in public.
Community is nurtured in private.
When time is limited, control matters.
A newsletter allows you to decide the cadence:
• Weekly
• Biweekly
• Daily
That structure protects your energy while maintaining connection. People know when to expect you. You remove the pressure of constant visibility.
Consistency beats frequency.
Build Where You Own the Relationship
Social platforms are powerful for reach.
Newsletters are powerful for longevity.
When time is limited, the smartest approach is this:
Use social media for visibility and your newsletter for community.
A newsletter is not a step backward.
It is a long term asset.
It allows you to build community on your terms — with clarity, ownership, and sustainability.
