Every Creator Needs a Newsletter

Happy Thursday EduCreator!

I can be stubborn. It’s a trait I’m working on. I’ve always loved writing, but had email PTSD after working for the DC school system for 10 years. This is just an excuse, but if you’re like me at all and you have an adverse reaction to starting a newsletter, I’m here to say:

After joining X a year ago and hearing enough big Creators say that they were growing their brands, business and community through their newsletters, I knew that I was missing a big piece of the equation. I had built a decent size email list from years of collecting contact info, but was not engaging with it at all. Huge mistake!

If you still need convincing, here are a few reasons we discussed in our pop-up space yesterday (listen to replay here) why now is the time to build your email list and start a newsletter:

1. Own your audience data You don’t want to be dependent on another platform. You never know what could happen and your email list is one of your greatest assets as an entrepreneur and creator.

2. Serve your community with high value content I started enjoying writing a regular newsletter so much more when I shifted the way I saw my email list. These were not people I was trying to sell a product or service to, they are all of my connections from various parts of my life. They are my community.

3. Earn revenue No one wants to be sold to on the timeline or while they are listening to a Space. X is for making connections and building relationships. Your newsletter is where you can offer your products and services. This is welcome and expected. If someone is not interested they can simply opt-out anytime.

OCC Metaversity: All Students Welcome!

The OCC Leadership team met yesterday and we have decided to reopen the doors of OCC Metaversity. Woo hoo! This is very exciting and we’ve already started playing around in there. If you are curious and want to join us as we discover what’s possible, click the button to join the server. Once you are inside, we will give you the student role and begin your Onboarding Process.

We are offering all new members an assigned Founding Mentor that will be your personal onboarding guide. This is available to all Students of OCC Metaversity. Get started now while we’re building. We would love for you to get involved!

OCC Leadership Update

The OCC Leadership team met yesterday and we were very productive. We are putting lots of new measures in place to better onboard new members, build our Founder Program, and continue to grow in our mission of being the place where creators come to build community, grow a reputable brand, and monetize their knowledge.

Here are a few changes moving forward:

• We will assign all new students a Mentor. To join, please log into OCC Metaversity and request the Student role. We will need to verify you if we don’t recognize your username.

• Your mentor will meet with you 1:1 and make sure you have a successful onboarding. They will also make connection recommendations so you know who to connect with first.

• Mentors will host weekly orientation sessions for new members and anyone new to Discord.

• Mentors will host monthly social networking events, workshops and webinars

• OCC Coin will be reintroduced and this time we own it!

• XPs have been reset (experience points). This means we are all on an even playing field.

• OCC Metaversity is gamified and the OCC 🟣 (coin) is the token that drives our social economy. Get in there and engage to earn XP and OCC 🟣 !

Friends of Daybreak: Video Cohort

Hendo and I did hosted almost 40 livestream video spaces between Get AI Creative, a video show with Alex Northstar, and Daybreak, our pride and joy show all about X Creators, news/updates and AI. We are taking a short break from going live and making room for an exciting new show with HENDO! Stay tuned…

Our video cohort, which we are lovingly calling “Friends of Daybreak” is growing with over 60 members and is totally free to join. We will be having another meet up soon to work on our video projects and introduce an exciting 30 day challenge.
