How to Host a Space
Join me in the The Startup Circle TODAY at 12pmEST on X
Happy Wednesday EduCreator,
When I started hosting live social audio rooms on Clubhouse in October 2021, I just needed a distraction from an intense loss and grief. I wasn’t looking to start a business. Had no idea I would build a community. I just wanted connection without having to leave my home or get on camera.
What I found was healing and an opportunity to not only share my story, but great comfort in hearing other people’s stories by hosting rooms that facilitated these interactions in a safe setting. Within in a month, I had my first paid community member and within two months, I was taking on consultation clients helping them do what I was doing.
Hosting Spaces (as they’re called on X) has changed my life. It has opened doors and created opportunities I could have never imagined. I hope I can encourage as many people as possible to experience the benefit and reward of hosting as possible. This is why I founded the EduCreator community.
Join me today for a pop-up space in The Startup Circle community at 12pmEST with my two awesome co-hosts: Andy Wergedal and Brian Orr.
5 Tips for Hosting Great Spaces
1. Have two experienced co-hosts 👥
If you do nothing else on this list, be sure to have 2 experienced co-hosts when you launch your space. Not only will you get support with inviting people up on stage and running the space, you’ll have people to kick off the convo with. Don’t wait for the space to fill up, start talking right away!
2. Schedule the space in advance 📆
Find a time that works for your co-hosts and doesn’t conflict too much with other popular spaces in your communities. By scheduling the space in advance, you have plenty of time to create content related to the space and share the link with others.
3. Invite speakers 🎙️
Reach out directly to other creators and community leaders via the DMs and invite them to be a VIP speaker on your space. Personalize the message so that you are reaching out to creators whose personal brand aligns with the topic of the space.
4. Promote the space like it’s your kid’s birthday party 🥳
The #1 reason people don’t show up to a space is because THEY DON’T KNOW IT’S HAPPENING! Promote the space in your newsletter. Send the link to people in the DMs. Create unique posts in various communities. Create content related to the space topic and add the space link.
5. Keep the mic HOT 🔥
The best spaces are the ones that have lots of speakers and where the mic is passed often so it stays hot. Acknowledge people that join the space and invite listeners up to the stage. Encourage speakers to raise their hands and contribute to the conversation. Don’t let anyone speak for too long. Keep the mic passed and hot!
