I was in a startup pitch space recently and I heard the most brilliant idea from one of the speaker panelists: create a competitor dating app for Match dot com. I had already been ideating a dating app after being inspired by a new Space I attend daily on X that’s all about relationship scenarios. (You learn a lot about yourself and others when faced with hypothetical questions!)

The idea was presented because so many apps, like Match, are painfully out of date and according to this speaker, way over staffed (4k+ employees). So it was suggested to vibe code a new competitor app that would address the problems from these outdated apps.

So I went to ChatGPT and asked for an analysis:

What are the biggest challenges users have with dating apps like Match and Hinge?

I was blown away by the results because the solutions would be so simple. Here are just a couple:

Problem: Catfishing 👉️ Solution: Built in video calling and a video profile intro

Problem: Lack of aligned values 👉️ Solution: Make profiles “values forward” with things like a love language quiz

Problem: Low quality matches 👉️ Solution: User-powered match curation
