Locked out of X, still monetizing
Plus, my favorite AI Tools for creating great tutorials.
Hi EduCreator,
Happy Daybreak Wednesday! ⛅️
Even though my account is locked, the show will go on. If you missed today’s 17th episode with our friends Josh W, Greenman, Dan Roeder and our awesome sponsor Justin, watch the replay on Hendo’s account or on YouTube here.
Soapbox Moment: Your Email List is SO Important!
If you have been following me for any length of time, you’ve probably heard me talk about how crucial it is to have a way to connect with your audience and community off platform, no matter which social media platform you are on!
How do I do this?
I direct people to subscribe to my newsletter by “clicking the link in my bio”
I DM creators I want to connect with further and invite them to a quick 1:1 chat
I host quarterly cohorts (in the summer it was “Building Agents and Apps” and right now it’s a video support group). To join these free cohorts, participants must sign up with an email.
How am I still earning income?
If you have a community, I recommend creating a cohort that is focused on a specific project or new skill acquired. The Founder cohort has been my most profitable venture on X.
95% of my sales for products and services come from members of the EduCreator Community, AKA my newsletter email list. Although it’s annoying to pay for a product I can’t use (X Premium), business is able to still move forward because I have worked hard to create a platform that is not dependent on any social media site.
Yesterday I had my highest day of sales in a long time. Hendo and I have been building a video cohort (email required to sign up) and even though I had zero access to my X account, our first meet up was a huge success!
Our Video Cohort is now at 60 members. 20 people showed up for this first meet up, which is excellent attendance for a free event. 25% of attendees opted into our paid 2:1 offer (average is 3%). This was only possible because of having other ways to get in touch with the cohort.
My 3 Favorite AI Tools for Creating Tutorials
As an educator, I love creating tutorials about how to use technology, especially AI, to “monetize my knowledge” and grow my audience. These tools are AI powered to save time and create even higher quality content.
To create this tutorial, I used 3 of my favorite tutorial tools (only 1 is needed to create a great tutorial) and they all have cool AI features.
#1: Loom
I have been using Loom to create quick tutorials for years. As long as you keep your videos under 5 minutes it’s free to use. Also, if you share your invite link, you get 25 free videos.

To begin this tutorial, I created a silent screen recording of myself using Scribe.
Tip: Downloading from desktop is not available on the free version, but if you use the phone app, you can download the video.
AI Feature: the paid version of Loom uses AI to create chapters, video title and description. This saves a ton of time and works very well!
#2: Streamyard
Streamyard isn’t just for livestreaming. You can also easily create recorded videos and edit afterwards. Once your video is edited, sharing to multiple platforms at once happens with the click of a button.
I uploaded the silent Loom recording and talked over it to create this Scribe tutorial, which is so much more efficient than trying to talk and record at the same time!
AI Feature: generate shorts and reels AUTOMATICALLY (this is a huge time saver) with captions so that you can easily repurpose your videos. Remember, shorts are the only type of video that works across most platforms.
#3: Scribe
Scribe is my FAVORITE tool for creating more comprehensive guides and step-by-step tutorials. In the video you’ll see how easy it is to create a professional guide in minutes.
Check out one of the first guides I created with Scribe showing how to use ChatGPT inside of Google Sheets here.
AI Feature: Scribe uses AI to capture each step in the “how to” process you are showing as you click and generates the text for each step automatically.
That’s all for now! Hope to see you in the X streets again soon. For now, please send me letters of comfort by replying. 🤭
