My Favorite Membership Platforms

Plus, another episode of Mindset and Muscle @ 2pmEST

Happy Tuesday EduCreator!

When I started on Clubhouse (live social audio platform) in October 2021, I could not have envisioned the journey that lied ahead. I quickly realized that building relationships and networking was a MAJOR built in benefit of hosting live events on platforms like Clubhouse, and now X.

As my audience and community grew, I started looking into different platforms that could host the various content, communications, events and interactions that occur hour by hour in an engaged virtual community.

The first platform I used and monetized with was Mighty Networks. This platform, their unique community and the Community Design Course offered was exactly what I needed to lay a solid foundation for a membership based community. But I didn’t stay here. I learned that simple is best when building a home for your community.

I’ve tried many community platforms to run my membership subscriptions. Here are a few of my favorites:

1) Social Media Platforms: platforms like X Communities, Facebook Groups, and YouTube Membership have built in features that make growing an engaged community simple and efficient.

Pros: Free/minimal fee to use. Tons of rich features to engaged members with.

Cons: You don’t own your audience data and you are at the mercy of algorithms for reaching your community.

2) Beehiiv Newsletter: growing your email list on a regular basis and sending a consistent newsletter with your highest value content is key to growing an engaged community. Beehiiv offers features such as polls/surveys, insights, automations, and segmentation to help personalize your member’s experience.

Pro: Great for communicating with your members. Offer a premium membership with the newsletter subscription service for easy management.

Cons: Limited in features that allow you to host events and meet with members. Use in conjunction with tools like Zoom and Google Meet for best results.

3) Buy Me a Coffee: I have helped many Creators earn their first internet dollar on Buy Me a Coffee. This platform was made for Creators who want to offer high value content, premium membership, and easily monetize their knowledge.

Pro: Great email tool! Totally free to use and takes less than 5 minutes to set up. Start growing a following, email list, and sharing content right away. Add your link to your bio for best results.

Cons: Limited in features that allow you to host events and meet with members.

4) Nas.io: This platform is not as well known as many others, but the creators designed it with community in mind and it’s definitely one of my favorites! You can connect with group chats on other platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Discord.

Pros: Free to use and great features for hosting events for members. They recently launched their Challenges feature and it’s really good! I also love the Magic Reach feature which allows you to message, email, and post communication to members all at one.

Cons: They take 10% of earnings, but it’s free to use so this feels worth it.

5) Discord: This platform is known for being one of the best for growing actively engaged communities. If your community is into developing apps, engaging with games, social economy, and activities, this is a great option.

This is where we host OCC Metaversity, our first EduCreator project. A virtual collaboration hub and studio. If you’re interested in joining pre-launch, reply to this email and I’ll give you access.

Pros: the world is your oyster in Discord. There are unlimited things you can create and build together.

Cons: this is also the con. People get overwhelmed really easily. I stayed away for years. But the learning curve is actually not steep at all. With the right guides, it can get fun quickly. Another con, slightly addictive.

HIT REPLY: Do you currently host a community on a specific platform?

YES: which one are you using and how do you feel about it?

NO: what are you looking for in a platform? what help do you need?
