Why Community is Your MOST Valuable Asset

Join me and Auny as we Community Hop into The Startup Circle at 2pmEST

Happy Thursday EduCreator,

The biggest misconceptions people have about community is that either they don’t have one or it’s not big enough to do anything with. Both of these stop people from really leveraging one of their most valuable assets in life.

Let’s start by addressing both of these misconceptions:

#1: “I don’t have a community”

Go into your phone. Who are the last people you texted? Who are the last people you called or left you a voicemail? Whose DMs do you consistently look for when you log into social media? This is a great place to start.

It’s not that you don’t have a community, it’s that your community doesn’t have access to each other and they are not engaged as a community. When the people in your phone and DMs are able to connect with each other, their common thread being their connection to you and the values you stand for, you have the beginnings of a thriving community.

#2: “My community isn’t big enough”

All communities start with 1 other person, besides the Founder. The best communities are built brick by brick, human by human. The first 3, then the first 10, then 20, 50, 100 and so on. This process of building person by person is so important because onboarding people into your community is key to making sure it is purpose-driven and aligned with your core values.

The main thing your community needs, besides a strong onboarding process, is a home and ways to connect. I’ll be dedicating future events and newsletters on this topic.

I recommend keeping it super simple:

  • An email list and newsletter to keep your community updated

  • A WhatsApp group to connect with other members

  • A monthly Zoom call to meet live and “in person”

Why is Community so Valuable?

Even God is a united community in the Holy Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. My point here is that community is inherent to our original design. We were not designed to be alone. Adam was given a helper in Eve.

Our community is made up of the most important people in our life: family, friends, co-workers, childhood classmates, social media followers, the list goes on…

Take the time and energy to serve. Provide them value by sharing your own experience and expertise. Connect members with each other (this is the most valuable thing you can offer). When you do this consistently, the rewards you will reap from these seeds are infinite and highly valuable.

Here are some of the main benefits:

  • The fulfillment of having people to serve and help with your experience and expertise

  • Launch a new project? You always have participants to beta test.

  • Hosting an event? You always have people to invite who will consistently show up.

  • The joy of seeing relationships form between members

  • Referrals for your products and services (my biggest client ever came from my first community member)

  • Deep friendships for life and people to go to when times are tough

  • YOU NEVER FEEL ALONE
