Hello {{first_name | EduCreator}},
I have not so quietly become a newsletter evangelist because for the longest time I was the biggest hater of newsletters.
Why would I want to bombard people with another email?
Sometimes we are forced (for our own good) to do the thing we have been resistant to doing. That’s what happened December 2023 when my marketing coach told me straight up, no filters:
If you don’t start earning revenue by the end of the year, you need to fire yourself.
I had an email list of over 500 that I had collected from lead magnets, clients, my network etc, but wasn’t leveraging this asset at all. So I finally did the thing and launched the newsletter.
It was hands down, the best business decision I have made and it is what has kept my agency alive and growing the last 2 years (and the grace of God).
Inspiration for this post
I was on a call yesterday with an amazing founder that came referred to me by a dear friend. The call reminded me how much entrepreneurs and brands need a newsletter to fill in the growth and revenue gaps that cause so much frustration and instability.
The clip above is from the call. And in the spirit of content repurposing, I decided to turn the call into a learning series. This is part 1.
Most founders make newsletters harder than they need to be.
They sit down every week asking:
What should I write?
How do I make this interesting?
How do I come up with enough content?
The problem is not the writing. The problem is the way they think about the newsletter.
The shift that changed everything for me was realizing that my newsletter is not a newsletter.
It is my direct line of communication with the people most likely to trust me, learn from me, and eventually hire me.
That changes everything.
When you see your newsletter as a content task, it feels like work.
When you see your newsletter as a relationship asset, it becomes one of the most valuable things you can build.
Social media is excellent for discovery.
People find you on LinkedIn.
They discover you on YouTube.
They come across your ideas on Instagram.
But those platforms do not belong to you.
Algorithms change.
Reach disappears.
Rules shift.
Years of work can become dramatically less effective overnight.
Your email list is different.
Every subscriber is someone who has given you permission to show up in their inbox.
No algorithm stands between you and that relationship.
No platform decides whether your audience gets to hear from you.
You own the connection.
Think Like a Publisher
Every founder should stop thinking like a content creator and start thinking like a publisher.
Publishers do not obsess over individual posts.
They focus on building an audience they can serve consistently over time.
And that audience compounds.
Every newsletter becomes another touchpoint.
Another opportunity to build trust.
Another opportunity to demonstrate expertise.
Another opportunity to help someone solve a problem.
Over time, those small interactions create something powerful:
Authority.
Visibility.
Trust.
The three ingredients behind premium opportunities.
So this week, instead of asking:
What should I write?
Ask yourself:
What do my future clients need to hear from me consistently so they know I can help them?
That question leads to better content.
Better positioning.
And a stronger business.
Founder Takeaway
Your newsletter is not another content channel.
It is your owned audience.
It is your relationship engine.
It is your business asset.
Social media helps people find you.
Your newsletter helps them stay.
5 Ways to Start Building Your Newsletter Today
You do not need a website, a logo, or a complex content strategy to get started.
Here are 5 simple actions you can take today:
1. Write Down the 3 Problems You Solve
Your future newsletter topics are hiding inside the problems you help people solve every day.
Ask yourself:
What questions do people ask me repeatedly?
Those questions become your content pillars.
2. Create a Simple Landing Page
Use beehiiv and create a basic landing page with:
Who you help
What you help them achieve
Why they should subscribe
Keep it simple. You can improve it later.
3. Invite Your First 10 People
Most founders overthink growth.
Start by personally inviting:
Friends
Clients
Colleagues
Community members
Your first 10 subscribers matter more than your first 1,000.
4. Send a Welcome Email This Week
Do not wait until everything is perfect.
Introduce yourself.
Share your story.
Explain who the newsletter is for and what readers can expect.
One email creates momentum.
5. Create a "Questions" Document
Every time someone asks you a question, add it to a running document.
Within a few weeks, you will have dozens of newsletter ideas created directly from your audience's needs.
No more wondering what to write about.
Founder Challenge
Before the end of today:
Choose your newsletter topic
Create your beehiiv account
Invite 10 people
Schedule your first newsletter
Remember, your goal is not to build a perfect newsletter.
Your goal is to start building an audience you own.
